Ever found yourself staring at the weapon selection screen in Where Winds Meet, wondering if an umbrella really can be a deadly weapon? Spoiler: it can. With a huge roster of weapons, each with its own martial arts and talents, choosing your two loadouts can be overwhelming. But don't worry—this guide breaks down everything you need to know about weapons, from their traits to how to unlock new ones.
Weapons in Where Winds Meet aren't just about stats. Each one fits into one of four types based on how it performs in combat. You'll also see an icon next to each weapon showing its recommended development path. These paths are just suggestions to simplify your build, but you're free to ignore them. Clicking the icon takes you to a Path Guide with challenges to help you follow that build.
Every weapon has a basic light attack and a heavy attack, which often has a charged variant. But the real fun comes from special moves. Each weapon has a Martial Arts Skill mapped to the left of your action wheel (Q on keyboard, X/□ on gamepad). These cost Endurance and have a cooldown. The top slot ( ` on keyboard, Y/△ on gamepad) is a unique Special Skill, also costing Endurance. The bottom slot (TAB on keyboard, A/✖ on gamepad) is a Dual-Weapon Skill that swaps between your equipped weapons—it has a cooldown but no Endurance cost.
As you upgrade a weapon, you'll unlock bonuses that boost its attacks or your character's stats. And don't forget the basic martial arts like Jump Strike and Deflection—they're universal, but each weapon has its own animations.
Now, how do you actually get new weapons and martial arts? You can't just pick them up. Most martial arts are learned through Skill Theft. To do this, you need a Dragon Key, which you get by clearing outposts in the open world. With a key in hand, go to the Develop menu, select an equipped Martial Art, then highlight the weapon you want and choose Obtain. You'll see Skill Theft as an option—select it to see the dungeon location on your map.
Head to that dungeon, use your Dragon Key to unlock it, and make your way to the target at the end. Stand in the indicated area and observe them. You'll see circles closing in around the weapon they're using. Press the Capture button when you see yellow circles—not grey ones. If you succeed enough times, you'll learn the martial art and can equip that weapon.
So, which weapon will you choose? Whether you're into the elegance of a sword or the absurdity of an umbrella, there's a weapon for every style.
