Low-Cost Reroll Guide: Full Process from Early to Late Game

Master the low-cost reroll strategy: set your item path in Stage 2, stabilize with rolls in Stage 3, transition in Stage 4, and know when to push for 9 or play for top 4.

1. Stage 2 Opening: Best Early Traits, Core Low-Cost Carries, and Item Crafting Logic from First Three PvE Rounds

For low-cost reroll comps at the start of a set, prioritize picking core item components during the carousel, such as attack speed, B.F. Sword, or Chain Vest. At 2-1, if the items dropped from PvE rounds can be combined into completed items, prioritize frontline items (Sunfire Cape, Bramble Vest) or damage items (Guinsoo's Rageblade, Infinity Edge), depending on whether your low-cost carry is physical or magic.

Best Early Traits: The best early traits for Stage 2 are 3 Cybernetics or 2 Bruiser/2 Vanguard, paired with 2 Ranger or 2 Mage. For example, Vi+Blitzcrank+Lucian, or Tahm Kench+Kog'Maw+Caitlyn, which can preserve HP while saving economy. If you have 3 Mecha-Prime (e.g., Ziggs+Rumble) from the start, it's a great choice for an easy win streak.

Core Low-Cost Carries: Among 1-cost units, Kog'Maw, Caitlyn, Kayle, and Fiora are excellent early carriers, especially Kog'Maw with Guinsoo's Rageblade and Runaan's Hurricane, dealing massive damage early. Among 2-cost units, Twisted Fate, Zed, and Yasuo (if playing reroll Yasuo) are core, but in Stage 2 you mainly rely on 1-cost carries; keep 2-cost units based on your comp.

Item Crafting Logic from First Three PvE Rounds:

  • Win-streak items: If your early items can combine into Guinsoo's Rageblade, Infinity Edge, or Sunfire Cape, and your board quality is good (2-star frontline + 2-star carry), craft them decisively to go for a win streak. Prioritize carry damage items to ensure wins in Stage 2.
  • Loss-streak items: If your components are poor (e.g., three Cloth Armors) or unit quality is low, don't force crafts; instead, go for a loss streak to build economy. Prioritize keeping Recurve Bow, B.F. Sword, and Chain Vest for later core items. While loss-streaking, avoid taking too much damage; in Stage 2, aim to lose no more than 30 HP.

2. Stage 3 Leveling and Stabilizing: Should You Level to 6 at 3-2? When to Roll Down to Stabilize? How to Smoothly Transition to Mid-Game?

At 3-2, if your HP is healthy (above 70) and economy is good (above 50 gold), you can level to 6, but low-cost reroll comps usually don't rush to level because we want to roll for 3-star 1-cost units at level 6.

Should You Level to 6 at 3-2?: If you're playing a 1-cost reroll (e.g., reroll Kog'Maw or Caitlyn), don't level to 6 at 3-2; stay at level 5 and roll on interest until your core 1-cost is 3-star. If you're playing a 2-cost reroll (e.g., reroll Twisted Fate or Zed), you can level to 6 at 3-2 because 2-cost units have higher odds at level 6.

When to Roll Down to Stabilize: When your core 1-cost is 1-2 copies away from 3-star, or when your HP drops below 50, you must roll down (roll to 20-30 gold) to find your units. The standard for stabilizing is: core carry 3-star, frontline 2-star, and you can beat most boards. If you hit your 3-star carry, you can stabilize even with low HP.

Smooth Transition to Mid-Game: Reroll comps need frontline and damage in the mid-game. For example, if rerolling Kog'Maw, use Bruisers (Illaoi, Rek'Sai) as frontline, and Kog'Maw + Caitlyn as damage. In Stage 3, try to get 3 Cybernetics or 2 Bruiser + 2 Ranger to boost power. If you can't hit your 3-star, use 2-star units as placeholders; don't force rolls, save gold and roll again in Stage 4.

3. 4-1/4-2 Transition Timing: When to Level to 7/8 and Sell Carries for a Big Swap? Substitute Units if Core 4/5-Cost Not Found

Honor of Kings guide image

At 4-1, if you're playing a reroll comp, your core 3-star is usually already hit, so you can level to 7 and start looking for 4-cost cores (e.g., Zeri, Jinx) or synergies. If your core isn't 3-star yet, continue rolling at level 6, but you must level to 7 by 4-2 because opponent boards get stronger in Stage 4.

When to Level to 7/8 and Sell Carries for a Big Swap: After your core carry is 3-star, level to 7, sell excess carries (e.g., Caitlyn), and add in 4-cost units from your comp (e.g., Zeri) or high-quality frontline (e.g., Tahm Kench). If your economy is good, level to 8 at 4-5 or 5-1 to find 5-cost units (e.g., Urgot, Heimerdinger) to increase your ceiling.

Substitute Units if Core 4/5-Cost Not Found:

  • If playing reroll Kog'Maw and Zeri isn't found, use Jinx or Miss Fortune as substitutes; items are interchangeable.
  • If playing reroll Zed and Shen isn't found, use Leona or Nilah as frontline.
  • If playing reroll Yasuo and Yasuo's 5-cost counterpart (Yone) isn't found, use 4-cost Kai'Sa or Fiora as substitutes.

The principle for substitutes: same trait, same item type, and can activate key traits.

4. Economy Management: Win-Streak to Level 9 for 3-Star 4-Cost vs. Loss-Streak to Play for Top 4 โ€“ The Economic Threshold

Honor of Kings guide image

Economy is the lifeline of reroll comps.

Win-Streak to Level 9 for 3-Star 4-Cost: If you hit your 3-star core in Stage 3, have above 70 HP, and 50+ gold, you can win-streak to level 7, then save gold to level 8, and then level 9. After reaching level 9, use excess gold to roll for 3-star 4-costs (e.g., Zeri, Jinx). The economic threshold: you must keep at least 30 gold before leveling to 9, or you risk a collapse.

Loss-Streak to Play for Top 4: If your HP is below 40, or your core is 3-star but items are poor, don't aim for level 9. Prioritize rolling at level 7 to improve board quality and ensure you can win late-game fights. When behind, the economic threshold is: roll down to 20 gold, then save to 30 before rolling again, to avoid economy collapse. If your HP drops below 30 in Stage 4, go all-in and roll down to save your game.

In summary, when ahead, be bold and push for the ceiling; when behind, preserve HP and play for placement. The core of low-cost reroll comps is: Stage 2 preserve HP or economy, Stage 3 stabilize, Stage 4 transition, and Stage 5 decide based on economy whether to go level 9 or play for top 4. Remember to adapt flexibly, don't be rigid.
