Where Winds Meet: 5 Essential Early Game Tips

Feeling lost in the vast world of Where Winds Meet? You're not alone. With so much to see and do, it's easy to get overwhelmed. But don't worry—we've got a game plan to get you on the right track. Here are five things you should do early on for a strong start.

First things first: grab some free currency by redeeming codes. After the tutorial, open your menu, head to Settings, flip to the Other tab, and click the Exchange Code arrow. Enter any active codes you find (check our guide for the latest ones) to earn free currency items. Then, head back to the main menu and open the Letters tab to claim your rewards from the inbox.

Next, let's talk about a quick quest that nets you a great weapon. As you make your way toward the General Shrine, you'll hear a man crying for help—he's stuck between some boulders. Help him out to start a short quest. He'll give you fire arrows and ask you to shoot a wasp nest in a nearby tree. Once it's aflame, climb the tree to grab a melody, then return it to him. He'll reward you with one of four Martial Arts and the weapon that goes with it. Choose the Umbrella or Mo Blade—they're the best picks, as you'd otherwise have to wait until the next region to get them.

While you're at the General's Shrine, before you leave with Ruby, chat with a boy who lost his Cuju ball down a hole. Use Mighty Drop (jump then press L3 on controller or Q on keyboard) to slam the ground and fall into the General's Subterranean Shrine below. Inside, you'll find the boy's ball and a ton of loot: fire arrows, Dual Blades, the Cloud Steps Mystic Skill, and various currencies. At the end, you'll face a boss named Zhang Lang—use the explosive barrels to quickly drop his health, then grab the golden chest. After defeating him, bow before the statue three times to unlock a chest with an Appearance unlock and more currency. When you surface, return the ball to the boy to complete a Wandering Tales quest with a generous reward.

Now that you've got some Oscillating Jade and Coins, it's time to power up. Open the Develop menu to upgrade your Martial Arts and enhance your gear. Upgrading Martial Arts boosts their damage significantly, up to your character level. Enhancing gear slots gives you bonus Max HP, Defense, or Attack as long as you have something equipped. Spend your Coins on Martial Arts upgrades and Oscillating Jade on gear enhancements—with your new riches, you should be able to get everything to Level 2.

Finally, don't forget to upgrade your Medicinal Chest. It's your lifeline in battle. You'll need Medicinal Tales, which you get from quests and encounters. When you have enough, you'll see a prompt on the map. Head to the Evercare Clinic on the west side of Qinghe and talk to Yao Yaoyao to turn in your Medicinal Tales and increase your healing item capacity and effectiveness.
