Judgment Warrior Guide: Win the Lobby with These Pro Tips

Master the Judgment Warrior comp in TFT Set 18: traits, items, augments, positioning, and flexible pivots to secure top 4s and wins.

1. Final Comp and Unit Setup

This set's Judgment Warrior comp centers on 4 Judgment, paired with 3 Demacia, 2 Bastion, and 2 Darkin (or 2 Strategist) traits, forming a balanced lineup with a tanky frontline and explosive backline. The final comp levels to 8, with the following setup:

  • Main Carry: Kalista (3-cost), equipped with attack speed and on-hit items, is the sustained damage core.
  • Main Tank: Poppy (1-cost), her skill provides shield and damage reduction, combined with tank items to absorb the initial burst.
  • Secondary Carry: Gwen (4-cost), adds magic damage and execute potential on top of Kalista, while providing the Judgment trait's lifesteal.
  • Utility/Swaps:

- Jarvan IV (3-cost) provides attack speed and taunt, can be swapped for Shen (2-cost) for more frontline tankiness;

- Lux (2-cost) completes 3 Demacia, can also be swapped for Quinn (2-cost) for crowd control;

- Kayle (5-cost) can replace any low-cost unit late game for high true damage.

Full unit list: Poppy, Kalista, Gwen, Jarvan IV, Lux, Shen, Quinn, Kayle (8-population comp). Traits: 4 Judgment, 3 Demacia, 2 Bastion, 2 Darkin (if using Darkin trait).

2. Core Item Allocation and Priority

Main Carry Kalista: Prioritize Guinsoo's Rageblade (Bow + Rod) and Runaan's Hurricane (Bow + Cloak). Third item options: Sword of the Divine (Sword + Sword) or Giant Slayer (Sword + Bow). Rageblade stacks attack speed, Hurricane's split attacks trigger on-hit effects, making them core for Kalista.

Main Tank Poppy: Prioritize Warmog's Armor (Belt + Belt) and Thornmail (Chain + Chain). Third item: Dragon's Claw (Cloak + Cloak) or Bramble Vest (Chain + Chain). Poppy's skill scales with health, Warmog increases tankiness, Thornmail counters AD comps.

Utility Items:

  • Ionic Spark (Rod + Cloak) on Gwen or Lux to reduce magic resist early, boosting Kalista and Gwen's damage later.
  • Last Whisper (Glove + Bow) on Gwen to deal with high armor frontline.
  • Zeke's Herald (Sword + Belt) on Jarvan IV to give Kalista attack speed.

Item priority: Build Kalista's Rageblade and Hurricane first, then Poppy's tank items, and finally utility items.

3. Recommended Augments

Combat Augments:

  • Judgment Heart (directly provides Judgment trait, saving a unit slot)
  • Double Trouble (if you have two copies of the same unit, gain attack damage and ability power)
  • Battle Mage (increases attack speed and ability power, great for Kalista)

Economy Augments:

  • Interest (gain extra gold, accelerate leveling)
  • Balanced Budget (gain extra gold each round, maintain tempo)
  • Clear Mind (gain experience at end of round if no units on bench)

Emblem Augments:

  • Judgment Emblem (turn a unit into Judgment, enabling higher trait)
  • Demacia Emblem (reach 5 Demacia, boosting frontline tankiness)

If you get an emblem, consider going to 9 for 6 Judgment, which is a power spike.

4. Positioning Guide

TFT guide image

Core positioning: Main tank front and center, main carry in the backline, protect against assassins.

  • Front row: Poppy in the middle, with Jarvan IV and Shen on either side, forming a triangle to draw aggro.
  • Second row: Gwen behind Poppy, Lux in a corner to utilize her skill's range.
  • Back row: Kalista in the far corner, away from assassin entry points.

Details:

  • If the opponent has assassins (e.g., Zed, Talon), place Kalista in the corner and put a tank (like Shen) next to her, while placing Lux on the other side to bait.
  • If the opponent has mages (e.g., Mage trait), spread Poppy and Shen to avoid both being hit by AoE CC.
  • In the final circle, if the opponent has high-burst assassins, consider swapping Kalista for Kayle (5-cost) in the backline, as Kayle's invulnerability skill is safer.

5. Matchups and Flexible Pivots

TFT guide image

Matchups:

  • Strong against: Bruiser and Oracle physical tank comps; Kalista's percent damage and armor shred melt the frontline.
  • Weak against: Assassin comps (can burst Kalista) and high-burst mage comps (e.g., Mage trait, AoE nukes the backline).

Flexible Pivots:

  • If Kalista isn't coming, pivot to Gwen carry: give Gwen AP burst items (Rod + Glove), pair with Mage trait (e.g., Swain, Vel'Koz) for similar strength.
  • If you get a Judgment Emblem early, pivot to 6 Judgment, adding Zeri (4-cost) or Aphelios (4-cost) as extra damage.
  • If Poppy isn't hitting 3-star, swap to Nasus (1-cost) or Kassadin (1-cost) as main tank; items are transferable.
  • If late game economy is strong, level to 9 and add Jarvan IV (5-cost) or Kayle (5-cost) to increase the ceiling.

Remember, flexibility beats rigid formulas. Early game, use Jhin (2-cost) or Samira (1-cost) to transition, mid game quickly level to find your core, and late game adjust positioning and items based on opponents. Good luck climbing!
