Ever found yourself in a verbal duel where words are your only weapons? In Where Winds Meet, some foes prefer a battle of wits over swords. Here's how to come out on top in these mental showdowns.
When you encounter an NPC with the [Gift of Gab] option, selecting it starts a battle of wits. The game shows your opponent's style, and you'll need to pick a counter-style—it's a rock-paper-scissors system. Always choose the recommended style to gain the advantage; picking a weak one almost guarantees defeat.
The goal is to reduce your opponent's Mental Focus to zero before they do the same to you. You'll spend Inspiration to play cards that attack or boost you. Your Inspiration pool sits at the bottom right and refills over time. Each card's cost is shown at its top left.
Watch for the Rebuttal icon on your opponent's speech bubbles. Press the indicated button to counter, then choose from three options before the timer runs out. These free moves can deal big damage, recover Inspiration, or sabotage your foe.
The timer at the top right shows how long you have. When it hits zero, both sides start losing Mental Focus until someone runs out.
For card selection, prioritize those that silence your opponent—they give you breathing room to recover or set up your own attacks. And always take every rebuttal opportunity; they can flip the tide in your favor.
To level up your Gift of Gab skills, you'll need to advance the Scholar profession. Unlock it by completing Legacy: Scholar’s Path in Qinghe. Then, open the Professions tab in the main menu, select Scholar, and spend Career Notebooks to raise your overall level or Gift of Gab Notes to upgrade specific cards. Both currencies can be bought in the season shop with the current season's unique currency.
