Ever found yourself grinding for hours just to afford that next upgrade in a souls-like? If you dove into Mortal Shell 2, you know the pain. But just a day after launch, developer Cold Symmetry dropped Balance Patch 1, and it’s already smoothing out one of the game's biggest headaches.
First up, the economy gets a major tune-up. That rare currency, Glimpses, used to be needed to buy shell maps—but now you’ll spend Gloom instead. And here’s the kicker: if you already spent Glimpses on those maps, you get them refunded. Just check the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow. Gold drops from enemies have also been significantly increased, especially in the second zone, Mammon, where enemies now drop double the gold. That means you can upgrade your weapons without feeling like you’re stuck in a grind loop.
But that’s not all. Smelting weapons at the Tarforge now costs 75% less Gloom, making it way easier to switch up your loadout without burning through hours of New Game+ runs. The devs even admitted the old cost was “exorbitantly high.”
Combat gets some love too. A bunch of bosses and enemies have been nerfed back to their beta health values, which should make the early game less punishing. The Lost Child and Monolith both take damage and health hits, and some of Monolith’s attacks were retimed to be fairer. Enemies like the Cultist (mace) and Infested Stalker also have significantly less health. If you struggled with the starting area, this patch should help.
Weapons got buffed across the board—Great Martyr’s Blade does 20% more damage, and Troubadour's Lute hits twice as hard. The Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater no longer need minimum resolve to fire, and light attacks for several weapons now track better. Seals Guard can even be used while walking, which is a nice quality-of-life boost. Tarstones like Parasitic Stone and Grudge Stone got buffed, and Bulwark Stone’s damage reduction is way up.
Plus, there are crash fixes, bug fixes, and performance updates to keep things running smoothly. Balance Patch 1 is live on PC now, with console versions coming “shortly.” So if you’re diving into Mortal Shell 2, this patch is a solid step in the right direction. Will you be jumping back in to test out the changes? Let us know what you think!
